Which Montecristo do you think is best? Part 1.

Since 1935, the Montecristo brand has traveled a long and fruitful path of prestige that has spread throughout the world, becoming one of the most requested and sold cigars.

As we discussed in a previous article, Cuban and non-Cuban versions are commercialized on the market. In the US market, at least a dozen non-Cuban versions are available, manufactured by Tabacalera de Garcia. This enterprise, a company that is now owned by Altadis U.S.A., was established in 1969 in La Romana, Dominican Republic, and is considered the largest premium cigar factory in the world. There are also versions of Montecristo made in Nicaragua and Honduras, although they are made as a collaboration with Altadis.

In our store you can buy some of the lines of this famous brand, both those made in the Dominican Republic, as well as the excellent Volume Series, made in the Flor de Copan factory, in Honduras, by some of the most skilled rollers in the world. This last Serie we will discuss in our next article.

Next, we will tell you the characteristics of two of the most outstanding lines produced in the Dominican Republic, waiting for you to decide which one you think is better.

Montecristo Platinum Cigars

This series was originally introduced in 2002 and quickly became one of the most popular offerings in a market that increasingly demanded fuller-bodied cigars. In 2007 it was revised and reintroduced with a Dominican binder instead of the Nicaraguan used in the previous version.

Each cigar is handcrafted from a supple wrapper of traditional Cuban San Andres tobacco, grown in Mexico's legendary San Andres Valley. A special blend of Dominican, Nicaraguan and Peruvian long filler tobacco is used, which is covered in a delicious Dominican binder. All this results in a cigar capable of producing a bold smoke with faint flavors of spices, citrus, coffee and caramel, wrapped in floral and earthy fragrances.

With the Montecristo Platinum series, Altadis set new standards for luxury cigars, to the point that, in the June 2017 issue of Cigar Aficionado, it received an excellent rating of 90 points.

In our store you can buy them in Toro, Robusto and Habana No. 3 sizes, in boxes of 27 cigars. We also have the Churchill format in a presentation of 15 Tubes, and the attractive presentation of 5 cigars in a portable humidor package.

Montecristo White Series

After its initial release in 2007 as a more flavorful option to the Montecristo Classic, the White Series quickly established itself as one of the most popular cigars in the country and, over time, became one of the most iconic premium blends of the current market.

It produces a smooth to medium bodied smoke that can be enjoyed any time of day for being balanced and docile with notes of coffee, leather, cocoa, cream, and hints of baking spices. It is a classic blend that produces a smoke with a creamy texture, a delicious aroma and a crisp and moderate finish, but rich in nuances. It is smooth for beginners and tasty enough for an experienced palate.

The elegant White Series is one of the most requested and its cigars are some of the most emblematic of the brand, being a central part of its products. Montecristo cigar aficionados enjoy its seductive blend of the finest Dominican and Nicaraguan long fillers in a hand-selected Connecticut Shade wrapper. This cigar has climbed to the top of the world renowned cigar list and remains a favorite among American consumers.

In our store we have them available in various sizes, some of them on sale. Also we have them in smaller packages to better suit your budget.
