Camacho Corojo Cigars
Camacho Corojo Cigars, Overview and Review
The story of how Camacho Corojo came to be is actually quite an interesting one. After the Cuban Embargo, many rare tobacco seeds were smuggled out of the country. This rare and hard to come by combination of tobacco would later become the basis for the world famous Camacho Corojo line of cigars.
Simon Camacho established Camacho Cigars in 1961, and the Eiroa family bought it in 1995. Camacho Cigars, located in Danl, Honduras, specializes in genuine handcrafted Cuban seed cigars. Today, it is part of the Oettinger Davidoff Group. Simon Camacho's cigars were well-received in the United States, Ecuador, and overseas.
Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister, was a devotee. As a result, one of Camacho's most famous cigars is named after Winston Churchill. During this time, annual production reached 2 to 3 million cigars. The number continued to rise as the 1990s tobacco boom approached.
The Craft of Our Cigarettes
Camacho specialists use their extensive expertise to mix several tobacco varieties. These varieties of tobacco come from the rich soils of Honduras' Jamastran Valley. This is to preserve each brand's consistency and unique blend.
After the tobaccos are mixed, they are finely chopped then go through a drying process to remove moisture. The mix is suitable for cigar production when the moisture content is at an ideal level. They are then wrapped in the most refined type of Corojo.
In terms of flavor the Camacho Corjo is both full bodied and full flavored. Despite the fact that it is quite flavorful it is also very much so in the mellow vein as far as cigars go. There is little to no spice, no nutmeg flavorings, just smooth, slightly oily tobacco. It has a slightly chocolate hint to the aroma which comes from the cedar which is somewhat odd but not unpleasant. There are also hints of sugary caramel mixed into the scents of cedar and chocolate. The tobacco flavoring is very rich, dark and dry, more acrid than most cigars one is likely used to and faintly tinged with the taste of peppercorns without being harsh. The flavor all throughout the cigar is fairly consistent, which can be a plus or minus depending on the smoker. The pepper flavoring should fade out rather quickly, well before the first third, but definitely by the halfway mark. Like many of the more textured and earthy flavored cigars the Camacho Corojo cigars go excellent with a dark cup of coffee after a long day.Like all good cigars, the Camacho Corojo cigar is quite long lasting and should last between about an hour to an hour in twenty minutes. The longevity of any cigar is of course, dependent on the amount and frequency of draws taken off of them. It also has a very nice and smooth finish with a short draw which is unusual for such a large cigar.
